iUseThis: iPhone app popularity ratings

Posted on August 6th, 2008 in Main News by bestipho

iUseThis.com’s new iPhone app ratings pages let you browse for software based on other user’s recommendations. It’s basically a Digg for iPhone apps. It offers new releases, new apps, top apps and reviews. Just started, the site is building up steam and users. When last I checked, it still had fewer than 200 apps listed. But given the growth of the iPhone application space, this site shows early promise should it manage to attract a large enough user base. Pop on by and see whether it suits your needs.

iPhone 3G to be shipped in more eco-friendly packaging

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Main News by bestipho

The new iPhone 3G will ship in a paper tray made that has a carbon footprint a tenth the size of a plastic tray, according to its manufacturer PaperFoam.

The paper tray, manufactured by Dutch firm PaperFoam, is made from potato or tapioca starch.

According to Dutch blog Bright, PaperFoam CEO Hans Arentsen has confirmed that Apple ordered “millions of PaperFoam packages” for the new iPhone.

The PaperFoam tray will be inside a coated cardboard box, both of which are fully recyclable. Apple committed to reducing its environmental impact in an open letter from Steve Jobs released in May 2007.

Although we doubt it, hopefully this will be enough to silence Greenpeace protesters who have taken a liking to complain against Apple’s policies just because of its highly rising media profile.
