iPhone 2.0 firmware secret release date

Since its announcement, we’ve all been speculating about the iPhone 2.0 firmware release date, but Apple has been keeping the date secret all along.

“iPhone 2.0 software will be available on July 11 as a free software update via iTunes® 7.7 or later for all iPhone customers,” Apple notes in the original iPhone 3G press release (8th paragraph).

Many seem to think that this date most is likely a stall date (latest possible ship date for the release). However as the iPhone 2.0 firmware has already gone gold master (received shipping status), we might not see the new firmware until the iPhone 3G is released on July 11th.

Canadians Petition Steve Jobs for iPhone rate relief

Nearly 10,000 Canadians have signed a petition asking Steve Jobs to do something about the ridiculously high data rates that Canadians will face when the Apple iPhone comes to Canada on July 11th.

Rogers claims that its top data plan — 2 GB per month for $115 — is enough to download 16,000 webpages. But users point out that a single Facebook page can account for 1.2 MB, which reduces browsing from 16,000 pages per month to 1,600.

“It’s like they’re deliberately driving customers away,” wrote wolfscribe on CBCnews. “I’ll keep my money, ride out the contract and look for a new provider.”
